Men's and Seniors' Sections
East Berkshire Golf Club is a Club steeped in tradition but with a very inclusive attitude to members. There is a regular roll up that takes place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Saturday is very much a day for social golf in the morning with regular roll ups coming along and the afternoon is when our teams take to the course. Men’s competitions are played on a Sunday.
We have a long tradition of team golf, and matches are played both home and away against other local golf clubs. Many matches either have a brunch beforehand or a meal afterwards.
A Team: (also known as the First Team): Gentlemen category 1 players (generally handicap 5 and below)
B Team: Gentlemen with handicaps ranging from 6 to 12
C Team: Gentlemen with handicaps ranging from 13 to 18
19+: Gentlemen with handicaps above 19
The Seniors' Section at East Berkshire is one of the biggest sections. They play in the Reading and District Over 60's League and in 2018 won the league title. In addition they also play many friendly fixtures, home and away; these friendly matches are for all gentlemen over the age of 55.
Ladies' Section
The Ladies' section offers a varied programme of activities at the Club for both 18 Hole, 9 Hole, and social activities.
The Ladies can play their golf on any day withTuesday mornings are reserved for their Competitions; those ladies who cannot play on Tuesday have a time reserved on Sunday. Thursday and Saturday are mainly social golf which ladies arrange between themselves. A full fixture of Competitions is available throughout the year including 18 Hole and 9 Hole formats.
The Ladies have Gold, Silver, and Bronze Teams for those looking to play inter-club matches with a full list of both home and away fixtures during the main playing season; we also play friendly fixtures against other local clubs during the summer. The Ladies' Captain's away day is always a special fixture and an opportunity to play other courses. The Ladies are affiliated to the Berkshire County Ladies Golf Association which offers competitive fixtures for all handicaps.
Junior Section
If you are between 10 and 18 years old and have an interest in golf, then being part of East Berkshire Golf Club's Junior Section is just the start of getting in golf. The Club has achieved Golf Mark Award in meeting their high standards in Coaching and Playing and, of course, Child Protection and Duty of Care.
Junior Coaching - We have an exciting Junior Coaching Programme on offer at the Club led by our resident PGA Professional Paul Newman. A huge passion for Paul is to drive the Junior Section at the club. He runs the weekly Junior Academy applying his enthusiasm and knowledge with variety and fun. A multitude of his pupils have gone on to earn full county honours in the last 3 years.
The Juniors have a number of competitions throughout the year, including Medals, Stablefords, Centenary Cup, Junior Bowl, and Thistle Cup. The junior team play a number of matches both home and away.
Mixed Golf
The Club
plays a number of Mixed Matches throughout the season. They consist of a team of between 12 and 16 players. The matches are usually followed by a meal. The Club also holds a numberof mixed competitions throughout the year.
Social Activities
There is an active social scene with many events throughout the year.
Quiz Nights are held on a monthly basis throughout the winter and are extremely popular. There are the traditional functions around Christmas and New Year which usually involve a dinner and entertainment, some are formal, some casual. There are also Themed Nights over the Captain’s and Charity Weekends.
Over the winter months the Ladies play Bridge on a Monday afternoon, there is also mixed Bridge on a Wednesday evening. Cribbage is played monthly on a Wednesday evening over the winter.
The Club also offers special evenings such as Fish & Chip, Tapas and Curry evenings.
